We had the pleasure to produce an artist documentary of bucket drummer/street performer JaRed Crawford. JaRed is the son of musician Jared Crawford, aka Choclattjared, who got his start bucket drumming as a New York subway performer at the age of thirteen. By twenty Choclattjared co-starred in, and created all of the percussion segment in the four-time Tony Award winning musical, “Bring in Da Noise Bring in Da Funk”. This rhythmic composer also created and starred in his own critically acclaimed musical “Keep Bangin” and was most recently casted and featured in the Radio CityMusic Hall Spring Spectacular starring the Rockettes.
To capture the film, we traveled in partnership with Windish Music and Productions (http://www.windishmusic.com) to Worlds of Fun in Kansas City, MO for the opening weekend of “Grand Carnivale.” Grand Carnivale is the celebration of the sights, sounds, smells and tastes from cultures around the world including India, China, Italy, France and Germany. The Grand Carnivale cultural celebration has something for everyone – from crafts and games, to delectable food and drink, to live music and astounding entertainment. The event is ended with the Spectacle of Color interactive light parade, complete with dazzling floats, authentic music and mesmerizing street performers which then ends at the Carnivale Street Party, a magnificent party filled with international music and merrymaking until the park closes.
We were tasked with capturing their “Drummers of India” show which included street performances as well as the finale “Spectacle of Colors” parade. This included using 3 cameras to have multi-camera coverage of the full street show, as well as BRoll from the parade for use in promotional videos, as well as the artist documentary of performer JaRed Crawford.
We hope you enjoy this artist documentary of JaRed as much as we enjoyed producing it!
